Work Experience – A positive social responsibility or a challenge too far

Skills for Business

The Work Experience session on Day 1 of the GBS will kick off with some employers and students from Hartpury and National Star College talking about their work placement and supported internship experiences – the benefits and challenges from both the employer perspective and that of the students.

This will be followed by a question and answer session, chaired by Davina Jones from NSC and introduced by Stephen Whitbourn at Hartpury, with panellists from both educational establishments  who have personal experience of managing, supporting and trouble-shooting issues that work placement providers may have or perceive.

They will be joined on the panel by employers and students who can help allay any fears or concerns you may have.

So do make time at 11.00am on Wednesday 17 May to come and listen and take part in a lively and interesting discussion.

Closing Skills Gaps by Supporting Learning at Work

Skills for Business

The need to develop skills and improve productivity is not going away and this presentation explores why and how businesses should adopt a Learning at Work strategy in addition to traditional training solutions.

The lack of suitable training together with the investment in time and money are often barriers to providing learning and development. Supporting  and encouraging Learning at Work is a practical solution and during this session we will explore a range of options including blended, social, online, micro and project learning.

You will hear about:

  • Using blended learning to provide a flexible approach to learning and development
  • What do you need to consider when taking learning and development content online?
  • Continuous, contiguous learning (at work, at sea!) and certification
  • Developing skills by capturing and sharing knowledge

The Gloucestershire Business Show coincides with Learning at Work Week a national campaign to promote learn at work.  #learningatworkweek
